Grady Luke is ONE!!

On this day, 12 Months ago, at 1:05 pm, we welcomed our precious Grady Luke into our family! He entered the world with a head full of black hair, chubby round cheeks, pretty olive skin, and a pouty little mouth with a big bottom lip sticking out. He was precious, perfect, and absolutely wonderful. I remember thinking what a handsome little guy he was, and over the past 12 months he has only grown more handsome, more precious, and more wonderful. Our little Grady has definitely been a bright, shining star during this last year--- A year full of much anxiety, sadness, and heartache for our family. Despite all the turmoil 2011 brought us, I will always look back on it and smile because 2011 also brought us Grady--And for that, I couldn't be more thankful!

At 12 Months Grady Is:

*Walking! He randomly started walking at my parent's house a few weeks ago. It was completely unexpected! Blake and I didn't really think he would be walking by his first birthday, much less BEFORE his first birthday. He is all over the place, and can't be stopped!

*Doing lots of "jibber-jabbering." He has a few words like "Mu-Mu,
'Da-Da,' 'MMM', 'Yum-Yum,' 'Oh yeah,' and 'No-No'." But mostly he jabbers---In a language only he understands:)

*He is still a quick, sneaky, destructive little guy who likes to get into EVERYTHING! Poison Control has now been added to the contacts list in my phone since Grady has decided to sample a taste or two of Neutrogena face wash and Clinique foundation make-up in the past week!

*He loves to play ball, scoot around with his cars and tractors, read books with pictures of real kids and babies in them, get chased, and play all the silly games Addi likes to make up for the two of them.

*He "bumps noggins" with Daddy, waves "Hi" and "Bye", claps, plays "Where's Grady", blows kisses, gives fives, dances, and does all sorts of other cute things.

*He can stiffen his legs, rear his head back, and throw quite a little fit when he doesn't get his way.

*Can stick out his bottom lip and scream and bawl like none other when he gets his feelings hurt.

*Has recently started to become more aware of strangers and more aware when Mommy leaves the room.

*Is ridiculously hard to get dressed or change a diaper. He hates it, and will not sit still for anything! He basically has to be wrestled and pinned down when it's time to get his clothes on.

*Still smiles the biggest smiles and giggles the sweetest little giggles.

*Has 5 (Almost 6) teeth. Two on bottom and 3 (Almost 4) on top---And all the top teeth have basically been cut in the past month. Getting all your teeth at once is not fun---For Grady or Mommy and Daddy!

*Has not been napping very well here lately---We're going to make the switch to one long nap a day, soon! (Hopefully this fixes the nap problem we've been having!)

*He still LOVES his "baw-baws." Mommy is not quite ready to make him ditch the bottle just yet---But the time is quickly approaching! (I think it's going to be ugly---REALLY ugly!)

*Loves to point and look at all the many photos we have hanging in the hall.

*Favorite foods are corn, spaghetti, chicken spaghetti, Spanish Rice, and Lil' Crunchies (The baby Cheetos type things)

The Lord has taught me a lot during this first year of Grady's life. Things like trusting Him during all seasons of life. About TRULY believing the things I say I believe, even when life hurts. I've come to grasp a little bit more of how much the Lord loves His children. About how incredibly gut-wrenching it must have been to see his holy, perfect, blameless Son suffer a most brutal death on the cross. Yes, I have definitely learned a lot.

We had a scripture wall art piece made for Grady's room before he was born. There were so many verses I loved and thought about for his room, but Joshua 1:9 kept coming back to my mind over and over again. The verse reads, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” I prayed these words over Grady before he was born, and I continue to pray them today. Those simple words mean so much more to this Mommy's heart than they did one short year ago.

Happy 1st Birthday, our precious Grady Luke! You are a beautiful blessing, and you truly make our family complete! We pray it would please the Lord to call you His own, and we pray your life would bring honor and glory to Him! Happy Birthday Baby Boy! We love you so, soo much!!
